Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a significant milestone in India’s transportation infrastructure on Thursday as he unveils the double-line, electrified section linking the Western and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridors. The newly inaugurated stretch runs from New Rewari Junction to New Khurja Junction, covering a distance of 173 km and boasting several noteworthy features.
Revolutionizing Freight Connectivity: Key Details of the Project
PM Modi will be inaugurating the Rs 10,141 crore project which includes six strategically located stations along the route: New Boraki, New Dadri, New Faridabad, New Prithla, New Tauru, and New Dharuhera. The innovative routing of goods trains on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) track will significantly reduced the running time between Khurja and Rewari, effectively bypassing the congested NCR area, which includes Ghaziabad and Delhi, resulting in a time savings of up to 20 hours.
Engineering Marvels Along the Corridor
The section will showcase impressive engineering feats, including a one-kilometer-long double-line rail tunnel featuring high-rise Overhead Equipment (OHE) electrification – a pioneering design globally for seamless operation of double-stack container trains. Another standout feature is the 2.76 km viaduct at Sohna, constructed at a height of 25 meters from the ground level. This innovative construction approach avoids heavy earthwork that would have divided Sohna city into two parts.
Infrastructure Highlights: Bridges, Flyovers, and Connectivity
The corridor incorporates three river bridges, three rail flyovers, 24 major bridges, 79 minor bridges, 16 road overbridges, 32 major road underbridges (RUB), 17 minor RUB, and eight-foot overbridges. It establishes a crucial link between the Dedicated Freight Corridor and Indian Railways at Dadri through a 4.54 km long Rail Flyover (RFO).
Diverse Terrains and State Connectivity
Traversing diverse terrains, the corridor passes through key states such as Uttar Pradesh, touching Bulandshahar and Gautam Budh Nagar, Haryana with its presence in Faridabad, Palwal, Gurugram, Mewat, and Rewari, and extending into Rajasthan, reaching Alwar. The project not only enhances freight connectivity but also contributes to regional development and economic growth across these states.
