The Indian Railways has announced strict action against social media handles that are circulating misleading or old videos linked to train operations during the ongoing festive rush. Officials stated that such videos create unnecessary panic among passengers, forcing the administration to enhance its digital vigilance enforcement.

According to a report by ANI, Railways have identified more than 20 social media accounts for posting false or manipulative clips, and the process of filing FIRs against them has already started. The ministry has also activated a 24/7 social media monitoring mechanism to keep track and report such activity in real time.

Passengers urged to follow verified accounts for updates

The Railways have advised citizens not to share unverified videos of crowded stations or train delays and to depend on official communication channels. Travellers have been urged to check updates through the verified social media accounts of the Ministry of Railways on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

Vaishnaw inspects the New Delhi railway station

Meanwhile, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the New Delhi Railways Station to review arrangements and passenger facilities. According to posts on the Ministry’s official X handle, Vaishnaw inspected the control room, which monitors the station safety through CCTV surveillance, and also interacted with passengers related to crowd management, cleanliness and security measures.

The Railway Minister also pointed out that 75,000 passengers arrived at the same time at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday. The holding area that has been created, the passenger facilitation centre, has many ticket counters and is very well-ventilated. The movement of the people is also taking place in a very organised manner.

Earlier on October 16, Hari Shankar Verma, Director-General-Safety Railway Board, stated to ANI that Indian Railways is strengthening its focus on data security, cyber security and along with technical innovation. While speaking at the 16th International Railway Exhibition in New Delhi, he mentioned, “Railways is a very protected organisation and we always ensure data provided by the government should not be misused.’’ He further added that the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) plays the role of a nodal agency that manages the massive digital infrastructure, which is used for data processing and passenger ticketing.
