Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided updates on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. He announced that 360 km of the Bullet Train corridor has been completed, with substantial progress in Maharashtra. He also inspected the Ahmedabad Railway Station Redevelopment Project.

Vaishnaw highlighted the delays faced due to permission issues under former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s tenure but assured that efforts are being made to compensate for the lost time. “The loss of two and a half years due to permission delays is being addressed, and work is now progressing rapidly,” he stated.

Key developments

Significant strides have been made in the Maharashtra section, with nearly 2 km of the undersea tunnel already completed. The project is expected to revolutionize transportation between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, improving regional connectivity and economic development.

Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, conducted his first inspection of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project. He lauded the initiative as a transformative step towards India’s infrastructural development and noted that one lakh people have been employed through this project.

“The vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is materialising through this high-speed rail network. The construction pace is impressive, with 40-meter bridge spans completed in just 16 hours,” Bittu remarked.

The Bullet Train project, developed in collaboration with Japan, aims to enhance regional connectivity, boost economic growth, and generate employment. Spanning key business hubs such as Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad, the project is crucial for Western India’s infrastructural advancement.

With a sanctioned cost of Rs 1,08,000 crore, the MAHSR project is one of India’s most ambitious railway developments, aligning with the government’s vision for a modern, high-speed rail network as part of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
