Indian Railways’ Automatic Coach Washing plant
On February 17, the Railway Ministry took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a video of the Automatic Coach washing plants in action.
Captioning the video, the ministry wrote, “Maintaining high standards of Cleanliness”.
The video showed coaches being cleaned as they glided through jets of water sprayed at them. The Indian Railways claims the plants can clean the exterior of a rake of 24 coaches in about 15-20 minutes. The system minimises the use of water and money, hence, making it cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
The video also disclosed that the Automatic Coach Washing plants have been installed at 73 different locations. Earlier, the Railway Ministry had said that the plants have “outstanding features” such as high pressure water jets and horizontal and vertical rotating brushes, among other things. It added that these features contribute to minimising water usage for train cleaning while demanding minimal energy, maintenance, and labor. Additionally, they enhance operational efficiency.
