Several trains heading to Delhi are experiencing delays on Sunday, primarily attributed to dense fog affecting several states in North India. 

According to the statement issued by the Indian Railways, a total of 22 trains are arriving late in the Delhi area today (January 7) due to fog in several parts of India. It may be noted that the most prolonged delay reported for trains reaching Delhi is 06:30 hours. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi at 16 and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively. The national capital also observed shallow fog during the morning hours.

Cold day conditions in Delhi, parts of north India 

Persistent lack of sunlight led to a cold day to severe cold day in specific areas of Delhi, East Rajasthan, northwest Rajasthan, Haryana, and isolated pockets across Punjab. The maximum temperatures in North India’s plains varied between 12 to 18 degrees Celsius during this period.

Notably, the recorded maximum temperatures at different stations showed a considerable deviation from the usual range for this time of the year.
