Several Delhi-bound trains faced delays on Monday morning (January 8) due to thick fog, impacting railway operations in various parts of India. The Bhubaneswar-bound Rajdhani Express experienced a delay of 1.30 hours. Some trains encountered delays of up to 6 hours, while others were running behind schedule by approximately 6.30 hours.
“20 trains arriving late in Delhi area today, on 8th January due to fog in several parts of India,” News Agency ANI said in a tweet. The ongoing cold wave in North India, accompanied by persistent fog throughout the day, has significantly disrupted railway services in the region.

According to Northern Railways, the Katihar-Amritsar Express, Khajuraho-Kurukshetra Express, Jammu Tawi-Ajmer Express, and Ajmer-Katra Pooja Express are currently delayed by approximately 6 hours. Additionally, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Ambedkarnagar-Katra Express, and Chennai-New Delhi GT are expected to be delayed by around 2 hours. The Manikpur-Nizamuddin Express is projected to be almost 4 hours late.
Furthermore, a total of 12 trains, including Kanpur-New Delhi Shramshakti, Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Express, Bangalore-Nizamuddin, Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Prayagraj-New Delhi Express, Rajendranagar-New Delhi Express, Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar Express, Amritsar-Mumbai Express, Hyderabad-New Delhi Express, and Chennai-New Delhi GT, are experiencing delays of approximately 1-1.30 hours, according to railway officials.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted persistence of shallow to moderate fog in the coming week. Tuesday may bring a cloudy sky and the likelihood of light rainfall as well. The forecast indicates ongoing cold to severe cold conditions over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan on Monday, with a subsequent decrease thereafter.
