Indian Railways is fast-tracking the deployment of the advanced Kavach 4.0 automatic train protection system across its major routes, taking a significant step toward improving safety and operational efficiency. Kavach 4.0, an enhanced and technology-driven solution, aims to prevent accidents and ensure smoother train operations, providing an additional layer of safety.

Upgrading Existing Systems for Improved Safety

As per a recent press release, all locomotives equipped with the previous version of Kavach will be upgraded to the latest 4.0 version. The North Frontier Railway (NF Railway) network, spanning 1,966 route kilometers from Malda Town to Dibrugarh, has been identified for the first phase of Kavach 4.0 implementation.

Kavach 4.0 is part of Indian Railways’ broader initiative to modernize infrastructure and enhance safety standards. The system integrates advanced technologies like Station Kavach, which communicates with Loco Kavach and signaling systems to control the locomotive. Additionally, RFID tags installed along tracks help monitor the train’s position and direction, minimizing human errors and preventing accidents. In recent years, Indian Railways has prioritized safety, with a focus on reducing train accidents.
