The Ministry of Railways has achieved substantial results in its ongoing Special Cleanliness Campaign 3.0, generating revenue exceeding Rs 66 lakh through the disposal of office scrap during the first 13 days, according to an official statement issued on Sunday (October 15). This endeavor not only added to the ministry’s financial gains but also led to the release of 3,97,619 sqft of space that can now be repurposed. 

Special Cleanliness Campaign 3.0 was initiated on October 1 and is scheduled to continue until October 31. The campaign covers a wide spectrum, encompassing the Railways’ zonal headquarters, divisional offices, production units, Research Design and Standards Organisation, training institutes, and over 7,000 stations, as stated in the official announcement. 

Indian Railways’ ambitious target

The Railways has set an ambitious target of conducting 10,722 cleanliness drives by the end of October, with a specific emphasis on disposing of scrap from offices and workplaces, with the objective of reclaiming 3,18,504 sq. feet of space, as outlined in the statement. 

“To achieve these targets, more than 5,297 cleanliness campaigns have been conducted during the campaign till 13th October, 2023. More than 1.02 lakh public grievances were resolved during the campaign,” the statement said.

“During this campaign, special focus was given to scrap disposal in offices and workplace which resulted in freeing up of 3,97,619 sq. feet of space and also approximately Rs 66.83 lakh (approx.) revenue has been generated through disposal of office scrap,” it said.

Additionally, the ministry reported reviewing more than 51,954 files during the campaign for the purpose of recording and weeding.
