Northern Railway has made a significant announcement, bringing relief to passengers with a reduction in ticket prices for trains going towards Kashmir valley. Effective immediately, passengers traveling in second-class coaches will benefit from a substantial 40 to 50 percent reduction in fares. During the COVID-19 pandemic, train fares had been increased, impacting the affordability of travel. However, Northern Railway’s recent decision aims to reinstate ordinary fares for making rail travel more accessible to the public.

An official from Northern Railway emphasized that the fare reduction represents a significant drop, reverting to pre-pandemic levels. For instance, the ticket fare from Sadura station to Srinagar has been slashed from Rs 35 to just Rs 15, providing substantial savings for passengers.

Reports indicate that this relief applies across the entire Kashmir valley, benefiting countless travelers. Currently, rail services are operational from Baramulla city to Sangaldan in Ramban district, with plans to extend services from Udhampur to Baramulla by the end of April, thereby connecting the valley to the rest of the country.
