In a recent tweet, the Ministry of Railways marked a decade of significant progress and transformation in Indian Railways. The tweet, which was shared on X, highlighted the revolutionary strides made in the railway sector, showcasing a video with key achievements over the past ten years.

Major Milestones and Achievements

Over the past decade, Indian Railways has laid 31,000+ km of tracks, facilitating better connectivity and travel across the nation. The construction of 11,900 Road Over Bridges (ROB) and Road Under Bridges (RUB) has improved infrastructure and safety for passengers.

The freight sector has seen remarkable growth, with over 12,600 million tonnes (MT) of freight loading achieved, enhancing the efficiency and capacity of goods transportation. Electrification efforts have reached new heights with 44,000 route kilometers (rkm) electrified, contributing to a greener and more sustainable railway network.

Modernisation and Technological Advancements

The foundation stone for over 1,000 Amrit Stations has been laid, aiming to modernise and upgrade railway stations across the country. 51 Vande Bharat Express trains running on tracks has revolutionised passenger travel, offering speed, comfort, and convenience.

The commissioning of 77 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals has boosted cargo handling capabilities, supporting the logistics and supply chain sectors. Additionally, 36,900+ LHB coaches and 9,100+ locomotives have been produced, enhancing the capacity and efficiency of Indian Railways’ rolling stock.

Enhanced Passenger Experience

Passenger convenience and safety remain a top priority, with over 2,000 Foot Over Bridges (FOB) constructed to improve accessibility and reduce overcrowding at stations. The provision of Wi-Fi at 6,100 railway stations has made travel more convenient for passengers, offering connectivity and access to information.

Track renewal efforts have also been significant, with over 40,000 track kilometers (TKM) renewed to ensure safer and smoother journeys. Indian Railways continues to strive towards becoming a world-class network, offering top-notch amenities and services to passengers.
