The New Pamban Bridge, a marvel of modern engineering connecting Mandapam and Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, is one step closer to commissioning. The Ministry of Railways recently announced a successful test run using an Overhead Maintenance System (OMS) engine, which demonstrated the bridge’s robust construction and efficient performance.
Key Milestone Achieved
In a tweet shared by the Ministry of Railways, it was revealed that the OMS engine achieved impressive speeds of 121 kmph on the Mandapam-Rameswaram section and 80 kmph on the bridge itself. The test highlighted the precision and stability of the bridge, which will serve as a vital link for train services to Rameswaram and beyond.
The New Pamban Bridge is designed to be a more advanced version of the iconic 108-year-old Pamban Bridge. Equipped with cutting-edge features, the new structure will significantly enhance connectivity to the sacred town of Rameswaram, facilitating better transport for both passengers and goods. The successful test is a major milestone, bringing the bridge closer to operational status and promising smoother, faster travel for future commuters.
