Multiple media sources reported that the Indian Railways had introduced a new rule for passengers who have unreserved train seats. The reports said that the commuters would have to show prined tickets only going forward. However, the Indian Railways has clarified the rumours. No such rule has come into effect and showing ticket on mobile to the TT is still allowed.
Indian Railways changes reservation chart timing
In another update, Indian Railways has announced a major change in how and when reservation charts are prepared. This move is aimed at helping passengers holding waiting list (WL) and RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets.
According to a circular, the Ministry of Railways has revised the timing for preparing the first reservation chart. The change is expected to reduce anxiety for passengers traveling from remote locations to catch long-distance trains.
As per the latest guidelines, for trains departing between 05:01 hrs and 14:00 hrs, the first reservation chart will now be prepared preferably by 20:00 hrs on the previous day. This earlier preparation is intended to give passengers more clarity about their ticket status before travel.
Online ticket booking
Online train ticket booking through IRCTC has become far more popular in recent years. With easier steps and faster service, most passengers now choose to book tickets online instead of standing in queues at railway station counters. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha on December 3, 2025, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that e-tickets now make up more than 87% of all reserved tickets booked on Indian Railways.
