Chief Project Manager of Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line project Ajit Singh Yadav on Friday said that 70% of the work of laying tracks for the 125-km rail line has been successfully completed, PTI reported.
Providing updates on the project’s progress, Yadav stated that the project implementation unit based in Rishikesh has met its target by constructing tunnels covering a distance of 60 km. Additionally, the concrete lining work has been completed within the specified timeframe.
Addressing reporters at the Railway Development Corporation Directorate, Yadav highlighted significant milestones achieved, including the construction of sixteen main railway bridges and four small railway bridges. Furthermore, the construction of motor bridges to connect railway stations at Srinagar Garhwal, Gauchar and Kaleshwar has been accomplished.
The project, which aims to enhance connectivity in the region, is set to be completed by December 2025. The Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line project spans approximately 125 kilometers in length, with around 105 kilometers planned to be developed within tunnels.
Proposed by the Indian Railways to facilitate connectivity for the Char Dham pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand, the railway line is set to operate from the Yog Nagari Rishikesh railway station to Karnaprayag. With an estimated cost of Rs 16,200 crore, the project is anticipated to enhance transportation infrastructure in the region upon completion.
