Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced on Thursday that a special train service will run between New Delhi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to handle the rise in passenger traffic.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said Northern Railway will run special Train No. 04081/04082 on December 12 and 13, 2025, to help devotees travelling to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.

Train timings and major stops
Train No. 04081 will leave New Delhi at 11:45 pm and reach Katra at 12:00 pm the next day. It will stop at several major stations, including Panipat, Kurukshetra, Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Jalandhar Cantt, Pathankot Cantt, Jammu and Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan Udhampur.
With winter flight cancellations and a surge in travellers, Indian Railways has stepped in to ensure smooth travel. To manage the winter rush, the Railways planned 89 special train services – over 100 trips – between December 6 and December 9 across multiple zones. These services began last week and were scheduled to run for three days to improve connectivity and meet rising demand.
Central Railway operated 14 special train services to manage the extra passenger load. These include:

South Eastern railway adds more special trains
South Eastern Railway also planned special trains after recent flight cancellations increased demand. These include Train No. 08073/08074 Santragachi-Yelahanka-Santragachi, 02870/02869 Howrah-CSMT-Howrah Special and 07148/07149 Cherlapalli-Shalimar-Cherlapalli.
To handle the rush, South Central Railway operated three special trains: Train No. 07148 from Cherlapalli to Shalimar, Train No. 07146 from Secunderabad to Chennai Egmore and Train No. 07150 from Hyderabad to Mumbai LTT.
Eastern Railway ran special trains between Howrah, Sealdah and major destinations, including Train No. 03009/03010 Howrah–New Delhi-Howrah Special and Train No. 03127/03128 Sealdah-LTT-Sealdah Special.
Western Railway will run seven special trains to meet higher travel demand. These include the Mumbai Central-Bhiwani Superfast Special (Train No. 09001/09002), which will run twice a week – every Tuesday and Friday from Mumbai Central between December 9 and 30, and every Wednesday and Saturday from Bhiwani between December 10 and 31 – making a total of 14 trips.
