As many parts of the country grapple with a relentless cold wave and dense fog conditions, Indian Railways’ train operations are hit owing to low visibility.
Passenger trains to Delhi also faced delays, with 20 trains running behind schedule. Notably, the Puri-Nizamuddin Purushottam Express and Hyderabad-New Delhi trains experienced delays of around 6-6.30 hours.
Further, several other trains, including Azamgarh-Delhi Junction Kaifiyat Express and Ambedkarnagar-Katra, are running late by approximately five hours. The Katihar-Amritsar Express is expected to be delayed by four and a half hours.
According to the Northern Railways, eight long-distance trains were delayed by 1-1.30 hours, including Howrah-Kalka Mail, Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Express, Prayagraj-New Delhi Express, Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar, Chennai-New Delhi and Jammutawi-Ajmer, the railways said.
Similarly, Azamgarh-Delhi Junction Kaifiyat Express and Ambedkarnagar-Katra were also running behind schedule and are likely to arrive late by around five hours.
Six trains namely, Rewa-Anand Vihar Express, Vasco-Nizamuddin Express, Bhopal-Nizamuddin Express, Khajarao-Kurukshetra, Amritsar-Mumbai and Manikpru-Nizamuddin are likely to arrive late by around 2-2.45 hours.
On Tuesday, the reduced visibility led to the delay of 30 trains in and around the capital, creating an unwelcome hurdle for commuters.
Foggy and chilly weather to continue in Northern regions
North India is expected to witness dense fog conditions for the next 5 days. Further, cold-day to severe cold-day conditions are likely to strike the plains of the Northwest region of the country for the next few days
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh will batter cold wave conditions till January 20. 2024. Besides, foggy conditions will prevail for a few hours in the night/morning over many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi till January 18.
