Indian Railways on Monday cancelled six trains and diverted the other two after four coaches of Sabarmati-Agra Superfast Express (12548) derailed near Home Signal at Madar village near Rajasthan’s Ajmer.

The accident caused rail traffic and affected other trains on the line. Train No. 19736, going from Marwar to Jaipur, has been canceled. Meanwhile, Train number 12915, Sabarmati to Delhi rail service route, has been diverted along with Train No. 17020 from Hyderabad to Hisar.

“All the passengers were rescued. A few people suffered minor injuries…they were taken to the Ajmer railway station. Most of them were discharged after the primary treatment,” Officials said while adding that an enquiry was underway into how the collision took place as the goods train was not supposed to be on that track.

Speaking to the media, a railway official said the rescue operation would likely be completed by evening. Further, he mentioned that the authorities are trying their level best to complete it before sunset.

The superfast train, including its engine, collided with a goods train running on its next track. The rescue teams and top officials were pressed into action to get the engine and derailed coaches back on the track.

The North Western Railway (NWR) has set up a helpdesk at the Ajmer station and also released a helpline number — 0145-2429642 — for relatives of the passengers traveling on the train.

How did the accident unfold?
