Indian Railways is tirelessly working around the clock to double the number of tracks across its vast network. This aims at enhancing the efficiency and smooth operations of both passenger as well as freight trains. In this context, the new line between New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya via Goalpara in Assam deserves special mention.
It will facilitate a large number of daily commuters travelling to Guwahati for business and employment. The area falls under the administrative jurisdiction of the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) zone.
Double line of Dhupdhara – Bamunigaon stations gets commissioned
Recently, the Ministry of Railways has commissioned the doubling of a new railway line between Dhupdhara and Bamunigaon station. The section is a part of the New Bongaigaon – Kamakhya via Goalpara double line project. It includes construction of 08 major bridges, 80 minor bridges, 42 crossing bodies and an absolute block signaling working system.
Construction of railway station buildings on Dhupdhara–Bamunigaon stretch
The new station buildings have been constructed at four railway stations which includes Dhupdhara, Singra, Boko and Bamunigaon. These four railway stations are also added with one new platform each for better handling of the incoming and outgoing trains.
CRS inspection on new double line between Dhupdhara and Bamunigaon stations
On October 17, 2023, Suvomoy Mitra, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), NF circle completed the statutory inspection of the newly laid double line between Dhupdhara and Bamunigaon stations. This second line will be helpful for carrying more freight and passenger traffic through this route. The CRS inspects bridges, RUB and Signaling systems on the 25.459-km-long stretch.
Significance of New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya via Goalpara double line:-
The doubling of the entire stretch of New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya via Goalpara rail route will boost connectivity and transportation for both man and materials with the other parts of the country. The far-flung areas of Meghalaya will also be highly benefited with the completion of this double line project.
