In a move set to bolster connectivity and pilgrimage tourism, the Railway Ministry has given the green light to extending the train route from Una, Himachal Pradesh to Haridwar, Anurag Singh Thakur announced on Saturday. Thakur expressed that as the representative of both the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency and Himachal Pradesh, his primary focus lies on advancing the region’s development, particularly in enhancing connectivity.
Highlighting Haridwar’s significance as a religious hub drawing many pilgrims from Himachal Pradesh, Thakur said that he urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for direct train services from Himachal to Haridwar. He announced the approval of extending the Una Himachal-Saharanpur MEMU train route to Haridwar, acknowledging the convenience it will offer to travelers. Thakur also extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support in this endeavor.
Una, Himachal to Saharanpur MEMU train route will now include Haridwar
The Una Himachal-Saharanpur MEMU train, previously running from Una to Saharanpur, will now include Haridwar in its route, offering enhanced convenience to passengers. An investment of 1838 crore rupees has been approved for various railway projects, marking a significant increase compared to previous years.
Thakur also highlighted infrastructure improvements and railway projects undertaken in Una district, including the approval for a double-lane bridge over the Loharli Khad and the inauguration of the Daulatpur Chowk railway station.
Una district holds particular significance as the sole district in Himachal Pradesh connected to the broad-gauge railway line, with the first train reaching the district in 1990.
Una-Hamirpur railway line
Looking ahead, Minister Thakur underscored the importance of ongoing and proposed projects, such as the Una-Hamirpur railway line, which will further boost connectivity and economic development in the region.
“This railway line will not only enhance religious and tourism activities but also benefit the youth serving in the Indian Army and paramilitary forces by providing them with improved access to transportation,” he added.
The construction of the Una-Hamirpur railway line, supported by both the Himachal Pradesh and Central government, is poised to receive significant funding for its realization.
Restoring rail services
Furthermore, Thakur revealed plans for infrastructure improvements aimed at restoring rail services between Pathankot and Jogindernagar, along with the Kangra-Nurpur rail track.
With these developments, Himachal Pradesh is set to witness enhanced connectivity and economic growth, furthering its position as a prominent tourist and pilgrimage destination.
