The Southern Railways have announced modernization of Guindy Railway station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). The station has an average record of managing more than 60,000 commuters daily. This station falls between the Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu route and the remodification work is anticipated to be commissioned in the next month.
The current state of redevelopment work
The Guindy Railway Station is a crucial terminus as prestigious educational hubs like IIT Madras and Anna University are located on this route. All the landmark locations like Guindy National Park, Raj Bhawan, Gandhi Mandapam, the Industrial Estate, and Guindy Race Club are also located near this route.
As per a statement by the Southern Railways, the makeover plans of Guindy Railway Station will cost Rs 13.50 crore under the ABSS.
The redevelopment plan will include the installation of CCTV, the setup of a Public Announcement System with an upgraded version, and old roofing sheets will interchange with the aluminium colour sheets. Additionally, a new booking office will be built, and two-wheeler parking at the entrance will be remodeled, and a pedestrian plaza will be erected too. An advanced passenger Information display system will also be set in place, and the entrance of the station on both the east and west sides will be redeveloped. The platform flooring will also be changed and three lifts will also be installed on the foot overbridge.
The current state of redevelopment work
The redevelopment work of the Guindy Railway Station is currently in progress and around 50% of tasks have been completed. Lifts on platforms number 3 and 4 have been installed, passenger information systems have been put up, a new booking office roof has been laid, and enhancement of the circulating areas and pathways is under process. Moreover, the old parking area has been renovated.
