The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has announced that trial runs on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor between New Ashok Nagar and Sahibabad stations are nearing completion. This stretch is expected to become operational by January 2025, marking a significant milestone for the project.
Final Preparations Underway
A senior NCRTC official confirmed that construction at the Sarai Kale Khan station is in its final stages, with track laying underway between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan. Once completed, trial runs on this section will commence. The Sarai Kale Khan station will feature parking space for approximately 1,200 vehicles, enhancing convenience for commuters.
Extended Corridor Enhances Connectivity
The trial runs between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar will extend the operational length of the corridor from 42 km to 54 km, with the addition of Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar stations. Commuters can expect a travel time of just 35–40 minutes between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South via the Namo Bharat train services.
Multi-Modal Integration at New Ashok Nagar
Designed as a multi-modal transport hub, the New Ashok Nagar station will connect with the Delhi Metro Blue Line. A 90-metre foot overbridge (FOB) is under construction to link the RRTS station with the metro. Additionally, two parking areas with a combined capacity for 600 vehicles, including spaces for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, will be available. A free 10-minute parking window will accommodate pick-and-drop services.
Anand Vihar: A Key Transit Hub
The underground Anand Vihar RRTS station is set to become a major transit hub. It will connect with two Delhi Metro lines (Blue and Pink), the Anand Vihar railway station, and two ISBTs. NCRTC is working to ensure seamless integration of the RRTS station with these transport modes, making it a model for multi-modal connectivity.
With New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar stations expected to be operational by January 2025, connectivity for travellers between Meerut and Noida will significantly improve. The complete RRTS corridor, slated for completion by 2025, will reduce travel time between Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut’s Modipuram to under one hour, revolutionizing regional transportation.
