The construction of the fourth railway line on the 206 km long railway section between Bilaspur and Jharsuguda is being done at a fast pace, said the Ministry of Railways on Saturday.

The construction of this railway line connecting Chhattisgarh and Odisha will increase the operational capacity of trains. It will also increase the speed of trains, the ministry added.

Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had given its approval for the construction of the fourth line between Jharsuguda and Bilaspur at an estimated cost of Rs 1,973.46 crore.

This railway line will ease travel. In the region, the industries, coal fields, limestone and dolomite mines, cement and steel plants will have more transport capacity to meet their needs.

In Odisha, Jharsuguda district; and Raigarh, Janjgir-Naila, and Bilaspur district of Chhatisgarh will be covered by this railway line.

Passing through major industrial areas, the Jharsuguda-Bilaspur route forms a part of the Howrah-Mumbai trunk route. This railway line plays a major role in the transportation of freight and passenger traffic from eastern and southern regions to northern and western regions and vice versa. To meet the growth in freight and passenger traffic, the construction of a fourth line on this route is important for the Indian Railways.
