After facing criticism over packed general compartments, Central Railway has decided to add four general coaches to 84 mail/express trains to accommodate the increased number of passengers, PTI reported.
As per an official, CR operates about 180 long-distance trains between various cities across India.
According to a Central Railway release, the revised composition of these 84 trains will now include four general class coaches and one general class luggage-cum-guard’s brake van each.
The list of these trains features prominent mail-express services such as the Konark Express, Vidarbha Express, Amritsar Express, Chennai Express, Saket Express, and Kochuveli Superfast Express.
Plan to launch 10 services from Dadar gets delayed
A plan by the Central Railway to introduce 10 local services from Dadar station in August has been delayed due to constraints related to the fifth and sixth lines, The Indian Express. Currently, these services originate from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai.
A Central Railway source revealed that the plan involved using platform number 11 at Dadar for these services. However, since the fifth and sixth lines extend only to Kurla, trains would have to cross all tracks serving other platforms at Dadar to reach platform 11. This could potentially disrupt the punctuality of other trains.
