Central PSU Braithwaite & Co Ltd has been awarded a significant contract worth Rs 180 crore to supply 500 wagons to the Indian Railways, as confirmed by a senior company official on Sunday. The wagons in question are BCVM-C type, commonly referred to as brake vans, which are typically attached to rakes for railway operations.
Braithwaite’s chairman and managing director, Yatish Kumar, shared insights into the order, stating, “We have secured an order of 500 wagons this month valued at Rs 180 crore.” In pursuit of sustainable growth and diversification, Braithwaite has been expanding its services and construction offerings. While wagons constituted 95 per cent of the business in 2018, they now represent 55 per cent.
Total Order Pipeline
The company aims to enhance its total order pipeline, which stood at Rs 1,734 crore as of December 2023, highlighting a strategic push towards diversification and sustainable turnaround.
Revenue Vertical Expansion
Kumar emphasized the importance of introducing new revenue verticals for improved profitability, citing successful ventures in civil construction, bridge cranes, and operation and maintenance activities. Additionally, the company is actively engaged in container manufacturing, solar PV plants, and railway station construction contracts.
With diversification as a cornerstone, Braithwaite outlines its strategic roadmap to achieve CPSU status with a targeted revenue of Rs 2,500 crore by 2025-26.
