The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Eastern Circle will hold an statutory inquiry today in the case of derailment of train number 12506 Dn Anand Vihar Terminal-Kamakhya North East Express. Four passengers have lost their lives while over 50 injured in the tragic accident. A total of 23 coaches of North East Express derailed near Bihar’s Raghunathpur station at about 21:53 hrs on October 11, 2023.
Statutory Inquiry
The area falls under the administrative jurisdiction of East Central Railway’s Danapur Division on the Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya-Patna Section.
In a statement, Birendra Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), East Central Railway (ECR) said, “Shri Suvomoy Mitra, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Eastern Circle/Kolkata under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India will conduct a statutory Inquiry…” The initial investigation found that the derailment was possibly caused due to fault in the tracks.
Date, Time and Place of CRS Inquiry
For the inquiry, Mitra will be available at Railway Officers’ Club, Officers’ Colony, Railway Divisional Hospital Road, Danapur, District – Patna (Bihar), 801105 from 09:30 hrs to 18:00 hrs. In a tweet, Dy CSO/Traffic/ ECR added, “It is to inform to all public having knowledge/information related to this accident or matters connected therewith and wishing/willing to give information/evidence may appear at the time and venue ….or write to the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Eastern Circle, 14 Strand Road (12th Floor) Kolkata.”
Compensation
The national transporter has announced compensation for the victims of the passengers who died or injured due to the train accident. The victims who lost their family members will receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh while the injured passengers will receive compensation of Rs 50,000.
