Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone for the redevelopment project for 28 railway stations in West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar today under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,’ as announced by Eastern Railway’s General Manager, Milind K Deouskar. The estimated cost for the redevelopment of these stations is Rs 704 crore.

550 stations to be transformed under Amrit Bharat 

In a press briefing at the Eastern Railway headquarters, Deouskar revealed that this initiative is part of the larger plan to transform 550 Amrit Bharat stations and enhance facilities across railway stations. 

Through virtual mode, PM Modi laid foundation stone for the redevelopment of 28 stations, with Bandel in West Bengal receiving the most significant investment at an estimated cost of Rs 307 crore.

Among the 28 stations earmarked for redevelopment, 17 are in West Bengal, seven in Jharkhand, and four in Bihar. The focus is not only on improving station infrastructure but also on enhancing safety for passengers and road users. 

Eastern Railway enhancing safety 

Eastern Railway is actively replacing manned level crossings with underpasses, with 11 already completed and plans for an additional 22 underpasses at a cost of Rs 123.52 crore.

Prime Minister Modi also laid foundation stone for four of these underpasses during the upcoming event, showcasing the commitment to infrastructure development and safety measures within the Eastern Railway jurisdiction.
