US President Donald Trump‘s administration has launched a website dedicated to what he labels as ‘Gold’ and ‘Platinum’ visa cards. While applications for the ‘Trump Gold Card‘ are now open, the ‘Platinum Card’ has simply been teased as “Coming Soon” on the platform.
These immigration program introductions come at a time when the Republican politician has ramped up his ‘America First’ agenda, as legal status revocations and mass deportations consume US headlines.
What is Trump Gold Card visa?
Teasing what the so-called Trump Gold Card will look like, the government website “trumpcard.gov” shows a replica of the card featuring an image of the US president alongside the Statue of Liberty, the American flag and a bald eagle. The card lookalike also sheds light on the MAGA leader’s signature.
Promising “accelerated” and “unmatched opportunities” in America, Trump calls the $1 million “gift” a “direct path to Citizenship for all qualified and vetted people.”
In simple words, the Trump Gold Card offers the wealthy the chance to buy their way into the United States. The official website describes it as a visa based on one’s ability to offer substantial benefit to America.
“For a $15,000 DHS processing fee* and, after background approval, a contribution of $1 million, receive U.S. residency in record time with the Trump Gold Card,” states the website. While this applies for individuals, the ‘Trump Corporate Gold Card’ stands in as its counterpart for businesses.
This, on the other hand, demands a $2 million contribution to acquire US residency. “our Trump Corporate Gold Card allows your business to transfer access from one employee and grant it to another with a small, 5% transfer fee, which includes the cost of a DHS background check,” the website adds.
Detailing a three-step process for the same, the website inform applicants to submit their application and a nonrefundable processing fee to secure their first step towards the Trump Gold Card. Thereafter, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency will facilitate an in-depth background check to vet the potential Trump card holder.
The third and final step is all about approval. Once the applicant is approved for the Trump Gold Card, they may use it throughout all 50 states and territories in the country. People may even use cryptocurrency to pay the fee for the application.
What Trump said about the Gold Card
Meeting with business leader at the White House, Trump noted that quite a few highly talented individuals end up going back to their home countries, including India, China or France, after graduating from college in the US. “We think these will be some tremendous people that wouldn’t be allowed to stay… It’s ridiculous, we are taking care of that. The companies will be very happy and I know Apple will be happy,” he added, while pointing towards the Gold Card availability.
“Nobody talked to me more about it than Tim Cook who said it’s a real problem… It’s not going to be a problem anymore,” he went on. Through the Gold Card program, Trump noted now billions of dollars will go into the Treasuries of the US, “an account where we can do things positive for the country.”
As a result, the Trump Gold Card system will apply to EB-1 and EB-2 visas. While the former is an employment-based visa for an applicant of “extraordinary ability, are an outstanding professor or researcher, or are a certain multinational executive or manager, EB-2 is a “second preference visa if you are a member of the professions holding an advanced degree or its equivalent, or a person who has exceptional ability,” as per the official USCIS website.
Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Kristie Noem said in a press release statement, “This landmark program fulfills President Trump’s promise to attract the world’s most successful entrepreneurs and investors to America while guaranteeing they have skin in the game.”
