International Experience Canada, a program for youth to travel and work in Canada for up to two years is closing soon. Canada sends invitations to foreigners to apply for the International Experience Canada (IEC) program.

Canada regularly invites eligible candidates from the International Experience Canada (IEC) pools to apply for a work permit. These are called rounds of invitations. The final round of invitations for all remaining pools will happen the week of October 21, 2024.

You must submit your profile before 9 a.m. Eastern Time on October 21, 2024, to be considered for the 2024 season. However, if you receive your invitation to apply before the season closes or have started your work permit application, you can still complete and submit your work permit application. The number of candidates invited to apply during each round varies. Rounds will take place until there are no more spots available or the IEC season closes.

You can submit an IEC profile at any time during the IEC season. As long as you submit your profile before the date of the last round of invitations for your country, you may receive an Invitation to Apply for a work permit.

Normally, your profile will stay in the pool until you receive an Invitation to Apply for a work permit or you are no longer eligible for IEC.

One can check the schedule on the IRCC Canada website to find out when the rounds of invitations for each country and category will start and end. The number of candidates in the pools and your chances of getting an invitation in 2024 season can also be seen there.

You can only have 1 IEC profile at any time. However, you can be eligible for more than 1 IEC pool. When you complete your profile, IRCC tell you which pools are available to you. You can submit your profile to any of these available pools. For example, you might be eligible to submit your profile to the Working Holiday and Young Professionals pools. There are 3 different kinds of work and travel experiences available – Working Holiday, Young Professionals and International Co-op (Internship).

If your profile is in an International Co-op (Internship) pool and Working Holiday pool, you will receive an Invitation to Apply for an International Co-op category. You will only receive an Invitation to Apply for a Working Holiday work permit if there are no spots left in the International Co-op (Internship) category.
