The new H-1B visa rules will require employers to pay a $100,000 application fee for each new foreign worker. A social media post reacting to this news has gone viral after an American professional praised the change.

According to him, the rule is justified because of what he describes as “rudeness” and “inconsideration” among some Indian immigrants living in the US

In his post, he shared a story about a customer of Indian origin who asked for a ticket to his company’s annual conference. “I reply back saying I got him a 75% off ticket,” the post reads.

“He responds he can only go if it’s 100%. He seems to want to really go so I go three levels above to secure him a 100% [discount]. I then email him the news and ask him to meet to discuss current projects. He no-shows the meeting, ghosts our follow-up emails but redeems the fully comp’d ticket.”

He went on to describe his experiences living in a building with many residents from the same country. “I live in a building with a lot of people from a certain country,” he wrote, claiming that some of them “rush into the elevator first without waiting for others to exit” and “leave garbage and behave loudly after hours.”

He added, “Rudeness and inconsideration in the common areas is a regular occurrence. My building emails reminders to keep common areas clean but certain people continue to leave their garbage and behave loudly after hours, disturbing the apartments around them.”

‘You are a racist’

Netizens were divided over this post. A user noted, “As Americans, it’s too much to decode the Indian class system, but a lot of poorer-class Indians came to America in the past 10-15 years because of a lot of H1B abuse. If you see certain better-behaved Indians, they usually come from more educated and well to do backgrounds.”

Another noted, “Rude people exist in every ethnicity. Haven’t we heard of Karen’s and white men from cul-de-sacs with similar stories? Garbage and noise too – we have plenty of American communities that create annoyances and trouble for others. Don’t attribute rudeness to an entire community of people, and then tie it to the H-1B tightening. You are far overexaggerating this whole thing.”

“Individual behaviour doesn’t escalate to all Indians. I’ve had good Indian colleagues,” claimed a user.

“I have seen such behaviours anecdotally from a lot of native born white Americans as well. Perhaps it makes sense to paint the whole demographic with the same colour given my anecdotal experience with a very small sample space?.” added another.
