A student applying to San Diego State University (SDSU) successfully secured their U.S. F-1 student visa at the Chennai consulate on May 30, 2025. The student shared the detial of the interview on Reddit. The applicant will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a focus on Game Development.

The visa interview was scheduled for 9:30 AM but the candidate was allowed to enter early at 9:00 AM. The entire process was completed swiftly, with the interview lasting approximately two minutes. The Visa Officer (VO), described as a calm, older white gentleman, efficiently conducted the session.

During the interview, the VO asked the student why they chose to study in the U.S. instead of India. The student explained that the specialized Game Development course and electives available in California are much more advanced compared to India, which motivated the decision to study in the U.S.

When questioned about funding, the student confirmed that their education expenses would be covered by their parents, who are both practicing doctors and owners of hospitals and educational institutions in India. After a brief pause—during which the VO stepped away momentarily—the student was asked to place their right hand on the biometric scanner. The visa was then approved on the spot.

The VO informed the student that their passport would be returned within seven days, marking a successful first attempt for the visa approval.
