In a post shared on Reddit, an Indian student with an impressive academic background secured a US F-1 visa in 30 seconds with ease after gaining admission to New York University (NYU) for a second master’s degree in Molecular Toxicology — with a full scholarship.
The student, who holds an MTech in Biotechnology from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati with a CGPA of 9.04, appeared for his visa interview at 10 AM on June 23. His calm and strategic responses impressed the visa officer, who approved the visa after a brief yet meaningful conversation.
“Congratulations, young man. Your visa is approved,” the officer said, after acknowledging the student’s fully funded admission offer to NYU’s Grossman School of Medicine.
When asked what Molecular Toxicology was, the student confidently explained the subject with an example. Upon learning about the full scholarship, the visa officer inquired whether it was merit-based or application-driven. The student clarified that it was awarded based on both his academic experiences and personal essays.
But what stood out most in his Reddit post was his observation and advice to fellow visa applicants. The student noted that the visa officer had rejected six applicants before him, primarily because their answers to common questions like “Why this university?” were too generic.
He emphasized the importance of personalized and genuine responses. “Don’t just recite what’s on the university website. Talk about what really drew you — maybe the community, the faculty, or the financial aid. The smallest detail could make all the difference,” he wrote.
He also stressed the need to be well-prepared for unexpected questions, citing a fellow applicant’s rejection over not knowing about the college town of Ann Arbor.
The student credited resources like YouTube channels “Argo Visa,” “Chai & Coaching,” and “ZF Visa” for helping him prepare. His final tip was clear: “Visa officers assume every applicant is guilty until proven innocent. Your job is to prove your genuine intent with clarity and confidence.”
