Although once a staunch Donald Trump follower, Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene has recently appeared to divest from her prior MAGA ways. Just days after the US president softened his stance on the ‘specialty occupations’ non-immigrant H-1B visa, MTG is going her own way.
Her efforts to have the US government put the brakes on the visa category particularly puts the target on Indian nationals working in America. Over 70% of H-1B visa holders in the US have been from India in recent years, as per the BBC. Moreover, reports suggest that roughly 30% of the tech workforce in Silicon Valley are all Indians, according to the Economic Times.
Relying on the power of social media, the US representative openly floated a bill to put an end to the visa program that seeks to bring in highly talented foreign workers to the United States. “I am introducing a bill to END the mass replacement of American workers by aggressively phasing out the H1B program,” she wrote on X Thursday (US time).
Marjorie Taylor Greene’s introduces bill to end H-1B
Much like several others from the MAGA camp, Greene doubled down on the ‘American Dream’ being reliant on ‘Americans’ instead of others who are brought into the country through the H-1B program. She went on to hold “Big Tech, AI giants, hospitals, and industries across the board” accountable for “abusing” the H-1B visa system. MTG blamed the non-immigrant visa category for cutting “out our own people.”
Singing big praises for American, and hailing them as “the most talented people in the world,” Greene said she had “full faith” the American people. The far-right politician further asserted that she served Americans only and will always put them first.
Greene’s strategy to facilitate the passing down of the ‘American Dream’ to the next generation is reliant on putting an end to American workers’ replacement. Urging industries to “start investing in them,” she affirmed, “My bill ELIMINATES the corrupt H-1B program and puts AMERICANS FIRST again in tech, healthcare, engineering, manufacturing, and every industry that keeps this country running!!”
In her firm announcement, Greene highlighted there would be “only one exemption” in her bill, which will allow a 10,000 per year cap on visas issued to medial professionals. But, she further proclaimed that even this cap would be “phased out” over the period of ten years so that the nation could build their own pipeline of American doctors.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s clash with Trump
The MAGA leader flipped his target earlier this week to call out his longtime ally for having “lost her way.” Taking a swipe at the Georgia Congresswoman’s criticism of him, Trump said, “I don’t know what happened to Marjorie, nice woman, but she’s lost her way, I think.”
As MTG has been coming after Trump over his government turning to solve global issues, she told NBC News last week that “watching the foreign leaders come to the White House through a revolving door is not helping Americans.” Additionally, she hit out against “too high” prices in the US.
As again reiterated in her new SNS post, Greene even responded to the POTUS’ challenge, saying, “The only way is through Jesus. That’s my way, and I’ve definitely not lost it, actually I’m working hard to put my faith into action. My job title is Representative. That’s for Georgia’s 14th district and the American people, no one else. America First America Only!!!”
Trump’s repeated reversals on H-1B, nonimmigrant program enforcement
Despite his original aggressive take on the specialty occupations visa category, Trump did a back-flip on the issue in a recent Fox News interview. While countless members affiliated with the same political as him have even taken up arms against legal immigration, the POTUS affirmed there was a crucial need to “bring in talent” to the US.
Host Laura Ingraham challenged his statement, saying, “We have plenty of talent.” However, Trump quick to bash the claims: “No, you don’t.” Explaining his POV further, he added, “You don’t have certain talents… And people have to learn, you can’t take people off an unemployment line and say, I’m going to put you into a factory. We’re going to make missiles.”
His shocking U-turn comes following the the US Department of Labor’s Project Firewall launch in September. The initiative sought to ensure “no employers are abusing H-1B visas at the expense of our workforce,” according to US Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer. On top of that, the DOL announced merely days ago that it had kicked off 175 active investigations into the alleged H-1B visa program “abuse.”
On the flip side, Trump even introduced an additional fee of $100,000 for new H-1B applications. However, the confusion tied to his back-and-forth on the visa program built even further ahead in light of newly revealed job data from the DOL.
Just this week, The Hill shared an unprecedented report stating that the Trump Organisation had requested record number of foreign workers in 2025. Citing data from the Department of Labor, it stated that the company wanted 184 international workers to be employed across various properties tied to the company.
And so, the Trump Org had eyes on H-2A and H-2B visa holders for temporary jobs at Mar-a-Lago, two gold clubs and at Trump Vineyard Estates in Charlottesville.
