The US Embassy in India took to X on Thursday to warn the people against illegal entering in the United States of America. The embassy shared an old video of United State Secretary of Homeland Security, Krist Noem, along with the caption, “If you are considering entering America illegally, don’t even think about it.”
The video that was shared shows Noem delivering a strict message to the foreigners who have or are trying to enter the United States illegally. Noem made it clear that President Trump wants to send a strong message to the world that anyone thinking about entering the US illegally, should not even consider it. She stressed on the fact that if someone comes to America illegally and breaks the law, they will be tracked down and removed.
She further added that if anyone tries to enter illegally, they will be caught, removed and never be able to return. She also said that those who will follow the law will find opportunity but those who end up breaking it, will have to face consequences.
Trump’s Tough Immigration Tactics
A report by BBC has pointed out the Trump is using several tough tactics at once. Stopping asylum requests indefinitely for people trying to enter the US through the southern border, sending troops to catch and possibly intimidate people crossing the border, making deportation flights highly public, where migrants are sent back home in chains and shackles; and pressuring Latin American governments, like Mexico’s, to take stronger action to reduce migration.
Fall in migration statistics
Trump’s new immigration approach has bought a twist with impressive results. A BBC report says that in the month of February, US Border Patrol reported arresting 8,347 people trying to cross the border illegally. This is a big drop from over 225,000 arrests that were made in December 2023. So there had been a big drop in migration.
The report further added that in December 2020 (under Biden), Border Patrol caught 47,330 migrants, averaging 1,527 per day. While this was the lowest daily average during Biden’s presidency, it was still five times higher than the number in February, the first full month after Trump took office.
The BBC report said that according to migration expert Adam Isacson, if this trend continues, migrant apprehensions in the US could drop to levels not seen since 1967. There are also signs that migration figures are dropping further south in the region.
Self-deportation: Trump’s way out for illegal immigrants
The Trump administration launched the ‘CBP Home’ app, an updated version of the CBP One app, to encourage migrants to leave the US voluntarily instead of risking arrest or detention. Just days before, Indian doctoral student Ranjani Srinivasan was reported to have left the US after her visa was revoked because of her involvement in pro-Palestinian protests.
The US Department of State confirmed that she left the country on March 11, 2025, using the CBP Home app, with video footage of the process. U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem also confirmed her departure. Srinivasan had been accused of supporting Hamas during a wave of pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University and other US campuses following the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza last year.
