After resuming tourist visas for Chinese nationals, the Embassy in India has now issued another positive announcement. On Monday, Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said the Chinese Embassy in India will be launching the online visa application system this month itself.

Even the date has since been finalised as December 22, making way for a major switch from the previous Indo-China dynamic on this front ahead of the new year.

Offering further details that applicants may be requiring, Xu Feihong also plugged in the address and contact information on his post.

Major India-China connection revived after 5-year gap

Tourist visas for Chinese nationals were blocked after the violence in Galwan Valley along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in June 2020. Consequently, relations between both Asian nations plummeted to an all-time low.

At first, both countries decided to resume direct passenger flights in January 2025. As bilateral ties thawed further, India resumed issuing tourist visas to Chinese citizens in November, which, in turn, followed the reported July order suggesting a limited reopening.

On top of that, restrictions on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrimage, which had been paused for five years, was also lifted in June 2025, allowing Indian pilgrims to enter Tibet.

“Visas for tourists are being given to Chinese nationals and business visas were being given earlier,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a previous weekly media briefing. “The visa regime of tourism and business, etc, is fully functional.”
