The US Mission to India has recently released new slots to help thousands of Indian applicants take timely interviews for visiting America. The U.S. Mission to India opened an additional 250,000 visa appointments for Indian travelers, including tourists, skilled workers, and students.

America is a popular choice for Indians looking to visit, study, work, and settle in the US. More than 1.2 million Indians have traveled to the United States year to date in 2024, a 35 percent increase over the same period in 2023. At least six million Indians already have a nonimmigrant visa to visit the United States, and each day, the U.S. Mission to India issues thousands more.

The U.S. Mission to India has already surpassed one million nonimmigrant visa applications for the second consecutive year. During the student visa season this summer, the US Mission continued to process record numbers, and all first-time student applicants were able to obtain an appointment at one of the five consular sections around India.

The United States Embassy in New Delhi is one of the world’s largest diplomatic posts, reflecting the importance of the US-India relationship. The Embassy represents 17 US federal government departments, ranging from the Department of State to the Federal Aviation Administration. The Embassy manages the activities of four consulates—in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Hyderabad—to ensure that the US-India partnership is robust throughout the country.

If you plan to apply for a nonimmigrant visa to come to the United States as a temporary visitor, you should review the current wait time for an interview.

The Appointment Wait Time ( as of October 7) for Interview Required Students/Exchange Visitors (F, M, J) is almost 52 days in Delhi, 67 days in Mumbai, 70 days in Kolkata, 56 days for Chennai, 50 days for Hyderabad.
