Vande Metro trains will operate between Indore and Ujjain cities ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela scheduled for 2028 in Ujjain. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday (June 22).
Madhya Pradesh CM emphasised that the state government will take significant measures, including implementing a new traffic plan for major cities in Madhya Pradesh.
“The most important decision in this direction is to operate a metro train between Indore and Ujjain, which will also be useful for the convenience of movement of devotees in Simhastha 2028,” he said.
The report of the feasibility survey related to running the metro trains between these two cities has been received, he said.
Yadav also announced plans for a future Vande Metro service from Indore airport to the Mahakal temple in Ujjain, describing it as a valuable gift for residents, tourists, and devotees.
Vande Metro Circle Train
During a recent conversation with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, it was decided to introduce the Vande Metro Circle Train in multiple cities across Madhya Pradesh, aimed at enhancing urban transportation infrastructure, Yadav added.
“The Vande Metro Circle Train will replace the old Metro system, offering a substantial benefit to the citizens,” stated Yadav.
In cities grappling with escalating traffic congestion, the Circle Train initiative aims to develop an integrated plan for Metro train operations.
Yadav underscored his discussions with the Railway Minister, highlighting plans for Vande Metro trains operating at higher speeds than traditional metros, incorporating cutting-edge technology, and the potential benefits for industrial hubs like Pithampur and Dewas.
Yadav also spoke on the importance of conducting thorough surveys and studies for utilising narrow-gauge and existing railway lines in certain cities. This approach ensures that currently unused rail tracks can be effectively repurposed.
The meeting also assessed the progress of metro projects across the state. The trial run of Bhopal’s first metro phase was successfully conducted in October last year, with the second and third phases slated for completion by 2027. Additionally, construction is actively progressing on a 31-kilometer metro line in Indore.
