The US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, took to X, formerly Twitter, yesterday to share a video of him taking a ride in Delhi Metro. He travelled from RK Puram to Okhla NSIC Metro Station on the Magenta Line.
The video opened with Garcetti holding a Delhi Metro card, saying ‘Delhi Metro, Mera Metro’. This was followed by Garcetti recharging the metro card and using it at the entrance. He then boarded a train packed with passengers amid heavy security.
US envoy Garcetti praises Delhi Metro
Tweeting about the experience, Garcetti wrote, “Wow! Delhi Metro, you make traveling so easy! I had a great time riding the Delhi metro for the first time and meeting fellow passengers. A shout out to the well-maintained, efficient, and green public transport system that is among the best in the world!”
In the video, Garcetti was seen standing with security personnel in the coach. He shook hands with the passengers and interacted with them. Many commuters took turns to take a selfie with the US envoy. Garcetti even gave a fist bump to a young commuter.
Garcetti’s post has garnered thousands of views since it was posted yesterday.
An X user wrote, “This is the first time I have seen an American diplomat meeting common Indians in public transport. Incredible, Thank you Sir.”
Another user wrote, “Thanks Ambassador Eric for your words of praise. It feels nice when genuine appreciation comes from eminent personalities as you. Bharat is beautiful. And we urge you to explore our country. And spread the good word to our fellow Americans too.”
