The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the green signal for the construction of 2,280 kilometers of roads in the border areas of Punjab and Rajasthan. This initiative has been taken with an investment of Rs 4,406 crore to enhance rural livelihoods and boost connectivity with the national network. The decision also highlights the government’s dedication to developing infrastructure in strategic locations all over India.

Road connectivity in border areas in focus

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has mentioned that PM Modi has constantly given importance to the development of the border regions. ”Earlier these were called the last villages, now these villages have become the first villages under the leadership of PM Modi,” Vaishnaw added. He also shared information on the recently granted ‘Vibrant Village Program’, under which road and connectivity in border areas are in focus. The sanction given for the project will further improve government commitment to converting these regions into world-class infrastructure.

Impact will be beyond road construction

As per the government press notification, the prime focus of this initiative goes beyond road construction. It also aims to enhance telecom connectivity, healthcare facilities, water supply, and education. The development will help provide a seamless travel experience, positively impact rural livelihoods, and will be able to connect with the rest of the nation. The government plan is to make sure that the border villages are equipped with the same facilities as those of central regions.

Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet has also sanctioned the plan for the building of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal, Gujarat. The project is anticipated to become the largest maritime heritage complex in the world. The motive is to highlight India’s rich maritime history. The museum is planned to be built in two phases and the Cabinet has given permission for Phases 1B and 2. As per the report, funds for the construction will be generated voluntarily.
