The Mizoram government is considering a ropeway and cable car system connecting Aizawl, Sairang railway station, and Lengpui to enhance tourism and improve public transport connectivity, an official statement revealed on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma chaired a high-level meeting to evaluate the feasibility of the Aizawl-Sairang-Lengpui ropeway project. The initiative aims to connect the state capital to Lengpui, home to Mizoram’s only airport, while also linking the Sairang railway station, providing a seamless travel option for residents and tourists.

Tourism and Transport Infrastructure in Focus

The project was proposed to foster tourism development and strengthen the state’s transport infrastructure. Officials deliberated whether the project should be undertaken by the state tourism department or integrated into the Aizawl Sustainable Urban Transport Project (ASUTP). The ASUTP is an externally aided initiative currently managed by the Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) department.

The meeting was attended by key figures, including Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister K. Sapdanga, Tourism Minister Lalrinpuii, the chief minister’s finance adviser TBC Lalvenchhunga, and other officials.
