Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today inaugurated 75 transformative infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) virtually. These projects are worth Rs 2,236 crore and are spread across 11 states and UTs.  Among the projects inaugurated, there are 22 roads and 51 bridges.

Nineteen of these projects are in Jammu & Kashmir, 18 in Arunachal Pradesh, 11 in Ladakh, nine in Uttarakhand, six in Sikkim, five in Himachal Pradesh, two each in West Bengal and  Rajasthan and one each in Nagaland, Mizoram and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

One of the key highlights was the inauguration of the Kupup-Sherathang Road in Sikkim, which serves as a vital connection between Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg and the Zuluk axis.

With these 75 projects inaugurated, BRO has completed 111 infra projects in 2024 worth Rs 3,751 crore. This encompasses 36 projects valued at Rs 1,508 crore, including the state-of-the-art Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister earlier this year. Additionally, last year, 125 infrastructure projects by the BRO were dedicated to the nation at a total cost of Rs 3,611 crore.

The projects in Arunachal Pradesh include three key roads, 14 bridges, and a helipad executed by Project Brahmank.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (retd) KT Parnaik said shone light on the strategic importance of these projects. “These completed projects will enhance national security, improve surface and air communication, and boost tourism in the state,” he said.

He further stressed that these projects will promote socio-economic development. Parnaik expressed his gratitude to the central government on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh for the successful implementation of these crucial projects.

“These infrastructures will promote socio-economic development, especially in border areas, supporting the Vibrant Border Village programme and the state government’s ‘Seva Aapke Dwar’ initiative, which brings administration directly to the people,” he added.
