Pune Metro is gearing up to unveil the long-awaited Line 2 from Ruby Hall to Ramwadi next week. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety granted conditional permission for passenger services on the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch over a week ago, following its completion. Commuters have expressed eagerness for the stretch to be opened promptly and without further delay.
Originally slated for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 19, plans were deferred. Despite subsequent hopes for a virtual inauguration on February 25, the event did not materialise. Now, Pune Metro aims to launch the stretch next week, potentially on March 6, in anticipation of the election code of conduct.
Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch inauguration
The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited, also referred to as Maha-Metro, oversees the operations of the Pune Metro. A Pune Metro official, as reported by various media outlets, stated that all arrangements have been made for the inauguration of the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch next week. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to conduct the inauguration via video conference. While the exact date is yet to be confirmed, it is highly likely that the inauguration will occur next week.
Pune Metro extension
The extended metro service, covering the 9.7 km route from Vanaz to Ruby Hall, commenced on August 1 last year and has since expanded. However, the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch, spanning 5.5 km and comprising four stations – Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyani Nagar, and Ramwadi – is yet to commence operations.
The completion of this segment’s first trial run occurred in October 2023. When passenger operations begin on the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi segment, Yerawada station will not be accessible initially due to ongoing construction work.
Work had been halted in November last year following community complaints about traffic disruptions caused by incomplete infrastructure. The station will reopen upon the completion of its second entry-exit point, expected within a month.
The Ruby Hall to Ramwadi metro station stretch holds significant anticipation among commuters. With Yerawada station situated after Bund Garden station on Ahmednagar Road, the new line promises to enhance connectivity and ease transportation in Pune.
