Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (March 6) virtually inaugurated the priority corridor of the Agra Metro. The metro services on the priority route of Agra metro will commence from tomorrow. This 6-km corridor has three elevated and three underground stations, according to an official statement.
The stations are Taj Mahal East station, Captain Shubham Gupta station, Fatehabad Road station, Taj Mahal station, and Mankameshwar Temple station. All six metro stations were adorned for the inauguration ceremony. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other leaders marked the occasion with the inaugural train ride from Taj Mahal station to Taj Mahal East station.
UP CM calls Agra metro ‘world-class public transport ‘
While addressing the commencement ceremony at the Taj Mahal station, Adityanath said that the Agra Metro aims to offer top-notch public transportation services for both residents and tourists exploring the city.
“Agra is one of the oldest cities of Uttar Pradesh. It is a part of ‘Braj bhoomi’. This city is associated with stories of bravery and valour of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” the chief minister said.
“Agra Metro was necessary to make it a centre of modern facilities,” he said.
Adityanath lauds UPMRC for timely completion of project
Adityanath commended the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) for achieving the timely completion of the initial phase of Agra Metro, emphasising that it has become operational nine months earlier than planned. Yogi also noted that PM Modi had laid the foundation stone of the metro on December 7, 2020 and it was completed in 23 months.
He also praised the UPMRC for its commitment to maintaining the project’s quality, achieving completion within 23 months. “I express my gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for the Agra Metro and congratulate the people of city for it,” Adityanath said. Priority is being given to the completion of additional projects like Civil Enclave and Gangajal, aiming to transform Agra into an IT hub, he added.
The introduction of Agra Metro establishes Uttar Pradesh as the state with metro facilities in the majority of its cities, including Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida, and Kanpur, Yogi informed.
