In a significant stride towards modernising and enhancing connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR), the trial run of the Namo Bharat train, a flagship initiative under the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), was conducted from Duhai to Modi Nagar South. This development comes after the successful commencement of the 17 km priority section covering Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
The trial run, which took place on a Sunday, marked a crucial phase in the testing of the newly laid track and traction for the Namo Bharat train. Departing from Duhai station, the train reached Murad Nagar station and continued its journey, covering approximately 12 km to Modi Nagar South.
“At present, the Namo Bharat trains are undergoing a trial run to test the track and traction. Initially, the train is being operated manually under the Train Control Management System. The train covered the distance from Muradnagar station to Modi Nagar South at a minimal speed. Later, it was brought back to Duhai while slightly increasing its speed,” stated the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).
NCRTC begins trials on second section
The 25 km-stretch between Duhai and Meerut South RRTS station is slated to be the next section of the corridor opened to the public after the successful implementation of the priority section. This section encompasses four strategically located stations – Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar North, Modi Nagar South, and Meerut South.
“In June, the construction of the viaduct up to Meerut South was completed with the installation of the last span. Since then, various construction works like track laying, OHE installation, signalling and telecom, and electrical have been progressing at pace in this section,” the NCRTC said.
Track laying nears completion
The track laying work is nearing completion, and the other essential works are in their final stages, according to the public venture. This progress underscores the commitment to ensuring that the RRTS system is not only expansive but also technologically advanced and capable of providing efficient and comfortable transportation services to the public.
PM Modi inaugurated Namo Bharat train on October 20
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Namo Bharat train on October 20, flagging off its operation on the 17 km-long priority section between Sahibabad to Duhai Depot. The successful trial run from Duhai to Modi Nagar South now sets the stage for the forthcoming expansion of the RRTS system, promising a transformative impact on regional connectivity and transportation infrastructure.
