Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) introduced a groundbreaking ticketing system featuring QR-coded wristbands for scanning at automated fare collection (AFC) gates. Soon, the 4 lakh passengers using the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro 1 will gain access to a novel ticketing option.

On April 10, MMOPL unveiled TapTap, a wearable metro ticket wristband.

“We’re launching an introductory offer of Rs 200, available at all customer care windows along the VAG corridor. Travelers can purchase and recharge these wristbands, similar to the store value pass already in use,” stated officials.

What is MMOPL’s TapTap feature?

The official emphasised that commuters could now wear their tickets, eliminating the need to carry them.

“Commuters can simply tap their wristbands at the AFC gates of Line 1 and seamlessly continue their journey,” said the MMOPL spokesperson.

TapTap is touted to operate without batteries, be waterproof, alleviate the requirement for exact change at ticket counters, enable users to load funds as needed, offer a hands-free experience, and be washable. Crafted from silicone-based material, it’s hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin.

A recent internal study, led by former chief secretary Johny Joseph, valued Reliance Infrastructure Ltd’s (R-Infra) 74% stake in the Metro-1 corridor at Rs 4,000 crore. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is anticipated to assume control of this metro line in the future.
