The Mumbai Metro will be operating its services post-midnight daily during the 10-day Navratri festival, starting October 15 to 24, The Indian Express reported. The state administration has decided to run the Metro services on Line 2A and Line 7 open till 12:20 am considering the large crowd expected to travel late at night during the festival days, sources said.
As of now the metro timings for the last train from Metro 2A and Metro 7 are 10:20 pm and 10:30 pm, respectively. Metro 2A runs from Andheri West to Dahisar and Metro 7 runs from Dahisar East to Gundavali. The two lines are connected.
Jump in number of trips
“The last trains on the two lines will depart at 12:20 am and reach their destinations at 1:33 am. With this extension in timings, 14 more trips will be added to the schedule, with a headway of 15 minutes,” the MMRDA said.
It added that this will take the total number of trips on weekdays to 267 and on Saturdays and Sundays the figure will jump to 252 and 219, respectively.
The decision to extend the timings was taken by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In a statement, the CM said that during Navratri, due to the garba events everywhere, there will be a requirement for late-night travel, the PTI reported. The extended travel time will help the commuters and they will be able to enjoy the festivities with more enthusiasm, he added.
