As Mumbai gears up to vote in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has announced a 10 per cent discount on tickets for commuters on May 20.
On May 20, five Lok Sabha seats in Mumbai will vote in the final phase of the general election.
Discounted fare in Metro lines 2, 7A
According to a statement by MMMOCL, passengers traveling on Metro line 2A and line 7 will benefit from this discount on polling day.
MMMOCL operates metro line 2A between Andheri (west) and Dahisar (east) and line 7 between Dahisar (east) and Andheri (east).
Commuters using Mumbai One cards, paper QR, and paper tickets to travel to polling stations can avail of the 10 per cent discount on the base fare on their return journey after voting.
The initiative aims to boost voter turnout through the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, encouraging Metro commuters to fulfill their civic duty and vote in elections, as stated in the release.
Among Maharashtra’s 48 seats, Mumbai holds six: Mumbai North, Mumbai North East, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai South, and Mumbai South Central. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) includes four more seats: Thane, Kalyan, Bhiwandi, and Palghar. It may be noted that the nationwide voting will conclude on June 1, followed by counting on June 4.
