The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, overseen by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), has achieved a significant milestone by completing 100% land acquisition in Gujarat. The NHSRCL on Monday (October 9) announced that the acquisition of the final parcel of land in Gujarat’s Surat district, specifically in Kathore village, encompassing 4.99 hectares was completed. 

Overall, the project required the acquisition of 951.14 hectares of land across eight districts in Gujarat, out of a total project land requirement of 1389.49 hectares. The largest land acquisitions were made in Surat (160.51 hectares), Vadodara (140.3 hectares), Bharuch (140 hectares), and Ahmedabad (133.29 hectares). 

NHSRCL completes acquisition of 99.95% of necessary land for project

With this latest acquisition, the NHSRCL has acquired 99.95% of the necessary land for the project, covering Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu.

In neighboring Maharashtra, out of the 429.71 hectares required for the project, 99.83% of the land acquisition process has been completed, with 7.90 hectares acquired in the Union Territory. The project will feature an operational control center located in Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, along with three depots, two in Gujarat and one in Thane, Maharashtra.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his then-Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Ahmedabad on September 14, 2017. 

The NHSRCL, established on February 12, 2016, operates as a Special Purpose Vehicle, with equity participation from the Central Government through the Ministry of Railways and the Governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra. Its primary objective is to finance, construct, maintain, and manage the High-Speed Rail Corridor in India.
