Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jammu on Tuesday to inaugurate a slew of development initiatives totaling Rs 30,500 crore, spanning across education, railway, aviation, and road sectors.

What will PM Modi do in Jammu?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will distribute appointment letters to approximately 1,500 newly recruited government employees of Jammu and Kashmir. He will engage with beneficiaries of various schemes as part of the ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Jammu’ initiative, as announced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Among the railway projects set for inauguration by Modi are the Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan railway line spanning 48 km and the recently electrified Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal-Sangaldan section covering 185.66 km.

According to the statement, he will also inaugurate the first electric train service in the Valley and launch the train service between Sangaldan and Baramulla stations. The railway projects aim to enhance connectivity, promote environmental sustainability, and stimulate the overall economic development of the region.

Besides this, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of several projects which amount to Rs 13,375 crore. The projects encompass the establishment of permanent campuses for IIT Bhilai, IIT Tirupati, IIT Jammu, IIITDM Kancheepuram, the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in Kanpur, which serves as a leading skill training institute focusing on advanced technologies, as well as campuses for the Central Sanskrit University in Devprayag (Uttarakhand) and Agartala (Tripura).

He will also officially open three new IIMs across the nation: IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya, and IIM Visakhapatnam. Additionally, there will be inaugurations of 20 new buildings for Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 13 new buildings for Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) throughout the country.

Jammu Airport’s new terminal

In addition to other initiatives, PM Modi will inaugurate the groundbreaking ceremony for a new terminal building at the Jammu airport. Spanning 40,000 square meters, the modern terminal will accommodate approximately 2,000 passengers during peak hours, prioritise environmental sustainability, and highlight local aesthetics and culture.

AIIMS inauguration

PM Modi will be inaugurating All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur (Samba), Jammu. The institute, for which he laid the foundation stone in February 2019, is being set up under the central government scheme known as ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana’.

Constructed at a budget exceeding Rs 1,660 crore and occupying an expansive area of 227 acres, the hospital boasts 720 beds, a medical college with 125 seats, a nursing college with 60 seats, an AYUSH block with 30 beds, residential quarters for faculty and staff, hostel accommodations for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and various other amenities including a shopping complex.

He will also lay the foundation stone of important road projects, including two segments totaling 44.22 km of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway linking Jammu to Katra, as well as the second phase of the four-lane expansion of the Srinagar Ring road.

Furthermore, Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various development projects valued at over Rs 3,150 crore, aimed at bolstering civic infrastructure and providing public amenities throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
