Kolkata Metro will be bringing a whole new set of features with its new rakes from China. These new features include CCTV coverage inside, wheelchair parking facility and wider evacuation doors, an official revealed.
The official further said that one of Dalian rakes is already in use, while two more arrived at Kolkata’s Noapara shed on May 26.
“Enhanced features of these rakes…will also provide CCTV coverage inside the coach… wheelchair parking facility and door-side handrails making them unique in Kolkata Metro,” a spokesperson of the rapid transit system said.
The spokesperson added that the new rakes will have 100-mm wider doors when compared to the present AC rakes. Besides this, additional features like greater seating capacity, better air conditioning system, noise reduction feature, are also being brought to the passengers.
One of the two new rakes is scheduled for a mandatory inspection soon. Additionally, eleven more rakes from Dalian are anticipated to arrive within the next six months, the spokesperson stated. These rakes feature enhanced safety measures, including a disc brake system, controlled-discharge fire extinguishers, and evacuation ramps with anti-skid rubber flooring, he added.
Kolkata Metro: Paying for tickets through UPI
Earlier, the Kolkata Metro announced the introduction of UPI-based system for ticketing across all automatic smart card recharge machines (ASCRM) on the North-South corridor, making it more convenient for commuters. Previously introduced on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade and Sector V-Sealdah corridors of the East-West Metro, this system is now available on the entire Blue Line (Dakshineswar-New Garia). This modern ticketing system is also available on all stations of Green Line 1 and Green Line 2.
