Kolkata Metro has announced a revision to its East-West Metro services on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade stretch (Green Line-2) due to ongoing construction work between Esplanade and Sealdah stations. These changes will be effective from December 14, 2024.
Service Reductions on Green Line-2
In light of the construction work being carried out by Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL), the number of services on the Green Line-2 will be reduced. Starting from Saturday, December 14, 114 services will operate from Monday to Saturday, as opposed to the usual 150 services. This revision aims to ensure the safety and efficiency of the ongoing construction efforts.
No Changes in East-Bound Tunnel Operations
The East-bound tunnel of the Green Line-2, which operates between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations, will not be affected. Services on this route will continue as usual. During peak hours (from 9 AM to 11 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM), trains will run at 20-minute intervals, while in non-peak hours, the interval will increase to 24 minutes.
West-Bound Tunnel Adjustments
For the West-bound tunnel, changes are being made. During peak hours, services will be available between Howrah Maidan and Mahakaran at 20-minute intervals. However, during non-peak hours, no services will operate in the West-bound tunnel.
No Impact on Sunday Services
Sundays will remain unaffected by these changes, with regular services running on the Green Line-2 without any adjustments.
These changes in Kolkata Metro’s Green Line-2 services are a temporary measure to accommodate the ongoing construction between Esplanade and Sealdah. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and check for updates regarding the revised timings. The Kolkata Metro authorities continue to work on infrastructure improvements, ensuring enhanced services in the future.
