Kolkata Metro’s Chingrighata-Sector 5 section of the Orange Line was inspected by General Manager P Uday Kumar Reddy today. The Orange Line is moving closer to completion.

The section connecting the IT hub of Sector 5 to the southern fringes of the city is expected to be completed by mid-2025, according to an official.

Reddy conducted a trolley inspection from the Gour Kishore Ghosh station at Chingrighata to the IT Centre station in Sector 5.

The inspection emphasised the platforms, mezzanine floors, and entry and exit gates, the statement noted. He was accompanied by senior officials from Metro Railway and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).

This stretch includes three stations: Gour Kishore Ghosh, Nalban, and IT Centre, located near the Sector 5 metro station of the East-West Metro. Currently, the Orange Line operates between New Garia and Ruby Crossing, with all construction completed from Ruby Crossing to Metropolitan.

Construction is currently in progress between Metropolitan and the airport via New Town.

Kolkata Metro aims to make the Ruby-Sector 5 section operational by mid-2025, providing relief to daily commuters traveling to the IT hub and easing traffic congestion on the EM Bypass-Salt Lake Bypass corridor.

During the inspection, Reddy also reviewed the emergency staircases at the stations and assessed passenger amenities.
